Account-based marketing vs B2B lead generation – what’s the difference?

Account-based Marketing or ABM, is a highly successful B2B marketing strategy that aligns marketing and sales teams to target key high-value list of accounts (specific people within select companies) with conversion-focused KPIs. B2B lead generation tactics are commonly aimed at a broader audience, which is narrowed down by engagement to a defined set of qualified leads (often a primary KPI of these campaigns).

ABM treats each target account as a single market, messaging is highly personalised and content is tailored to their intent and specific pain points. These bespoke campaigns can take longer to set up and achieve measurable results, whereas B2B lead generation can be faster to initiate and execute. For this reason, it can be a great starting point for future ABM campaigns.

What are the benefits of account-based marketing?

B2B businesses often have long sales cycles, very separate marketing and sales functions, and limited resources to qualify and convert pipelines, and difficulty targeting decision-makers.
