We say YES to reducing our carbon footprint

We’re saying YES to a lower-carbon future.
We’re excited to have received official Seedling certification – an important step towards our goal of becoming Net Zero by 2050.
We’ve always believed that being a responsible business means looking at the impact we have on the planet and how we can help make a positive change. Alongside our B Corp certification, our new Seedling certification is helping us take that commitment a step further.
So, who is Seedling you may ask? It’s an organisation that helps businesses understand their carbon footprint and workout what they can do to improve it. Via their platform, and team of carbon experts, it’s possible to measure our emissions, set targets and build a practical roadmap towards our goals.
Measuring our impact
We’ve partnered with Seedling to ascertain the full carbon footprint across our business and, with their help, put together a climate transition plan setting out our roadmap to Net Zero.
The first step involved understanding where we are today. Our emissions were measured across Scopes 1,2 and 3 (that means direct emissions, indirect energy emissions and value-chain emissions respectively) in line with the Greenhouse GasProtocol (GHG). Our methodology and calculations have also been independently verified by Seedling, giving us a robust baseline to work from.
For a marketing agency, our Scope 3 emissions look a little different to those of, let’s say a manufacturing business. Our biggest areas include internetf ees, IT and software, property services and business travel.
Knowing this helps us focus our efforts where they will actually result in emissions reduction for us, rather than making changes simply because they sound like they’ll be effective.
So, what are we doing with the results?
We’ve already made changes across our business to reduce our environmental impact.
Our office at The Old Printworks, Bristol is powered - in part - by solar panels, which generate renewable energy for the building and our electric vehicles, with excess energy exported back to the grid.
We’ve also made our workplace more energy efficient, with improved insulation and automatic energy-saving lighting, and we’ve made lower-carbon travel easier through our cycle-to-work scheme, EV charging points and electric and hybrid vehicle options.
Our new climate transition plan gives us the opportunity to build on this work.
It also means looking more closely at areas such as business travel, IT and the services we use every day, understanding where our emissions come from and what we can realistically do to reduce them.
What’s next?
Getting our carbon footprint measured and verified is an important milestone for us, but it’s nowhere near the end of our work. Our climate transition plan gives us a timeline for action that will result in us meeting our goal for 2050.
While there’s no single change that will make our business low-carbon overnight, we’re dedicated to making better choices, measuring our impact and continuing to improve for our people and our planet.
We’re saying YES to understanding our impact, YES to taking action and YES to doing better for the world.
For us, that’s what being a responsible business looks like.
